Dec 06 | Lights on The Lake POSTPONED | 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Lights on the Lake can’t happen without a lake..
Due to unforeseen drainage of Wesley Lake and a not-so-great weather forecast we will be postponing this friday’s Lights on the Lake event. Future event dates will be out soon.
APVibe is proud to present the city’s second annual “Lights on the Lake” celebration. Families and friends are invited to spend an evening decorating paper “wish lanterns” with their loved ones before releasing them down the current of Wesley Lake. This ancient tradition has roots in many Asian cultures, and is rumored to bring good luck and even grant wishes.
Join us in making our wish a reality, as we aim to help our neighbors this holiday season. With your support, Asbury Park is working to raise money for Kula Cafe, Interfaith Neighbor’s paid training program.
The Kula Café is a social enterprise addressing unemployment and the mismatched training and employment opportunity in the Asbury Park area. It is designed to develop readily transferrable skills for application in the hospitality industry. Training and skills development take place in a working eatery, giving neighbors the opportunity to help participants learn marketable skills while enjoying good food at a fair price.
Many local downtown and boardwalk businesses have lent their support for this event by offering special in-store discounts with the purchase of a five dollar event ticket to be redeemed the night of the event. Businesses offering promotional tickets leading up to the event include Fish Urban Dining, Hot Sand, Words!, The Paint Place, Baca Sports Lounge, and Old Man Rafferty’s (More participating businesses to come). Tickets will also be available at the Asbury Park Pedal Boat location on the night of the event. APVibe volunteers alongside Kula Café trainees, will launch lanterns at the Asbury Park Pedal Boat dock from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Attendees will also be provided hot refreshments and enjoy live holiday entertainment, including a 6:30 p.m. performance by the Trinity Church Choir, students of LakeHouse Music Academy.
Rally your neighbors and friends to enjoy this scenic view of Wesley Lake, and support one of a great many causes this holiday season.
